It was but it came from a committee, not the NYSE alone. And it has been revised from the original version which had fixed flat thresholds. Go to NYSE.com and look at the old press releases on the subject. I think the new method was adopted in early '98.

There are a bunch of other halts on various futures contracts, too. I think the Merc has a table that summarizes the whole shebang so go to their website and poke around, that is cme.com.

No, I don't think a big limit to shut down is foolish.

chic, why are you disturbing the SUNW tread?? Let those idiots hold to the stock until world's end, they are just a clueless arrogant greedy bunch who do not recognize that they just got lucky holding into a momentum stock that is run between others by GE Pension fund and the Janus Group of funds.

If they would have half a brain they would average OUT, but are to greedy to do that.

If they were so smart I have not read there that they bought into EMC, GLW or NT for example, who are by now other MOMO stocks.

at least I discovered NT 2 years ago an potential MOMO stock. (see my Chicken Page)
