Chic,

I think Dell will come around. They can't afford not to. However, Kumar will be stuck in his own disjoint universe for ever -- aimlessly floating in suspended animation.

When Dell adopts AMD, Kumar will state that it will further stimulate demand for Intel chips (in some obtuse way).

All the analysts have been saying, "2H should be great for Intel, 2H should be great for Intel,2H should be great for Intel,2H should be great for Intel,2H should be great for Intel,2H should be great for Intel,2H should be great for Intel." What if it is not?

Pravin.

Pravin.

chis, Re: Dell coming around...
You know what they say, when you have someone by the b*lls, their hearts and minds will soon follow.
dell now finds itself in an untenable position. They cannot afford to be stuck in the mud with no fast processors for 4-6 months as this will lose them enormous momentum, market share, as well as hit their ASP per system very hard. Sure the server section will help, but it is not enough. 50% of sales occur in Sept-Dec on an annual basis.
If Dell wants to sit back and accept this, as well they might, there could be SH lawsuits as they could tank badly..
I expect dell to admit they have been qualifying AMD parts for some time now and they are ready to use them....if they can get parts or chipsets...remember they have pissed the mobo, small parts and chipset market of for quite a while by their 400 pound gorilla act is parts purchasing, and I am sure AMD is a bit pissed too.
ll this might well mean Dell is unable to adopt AMD due to all the components being fully allocated.
So we watch Dell go down the drain? I am sure he will fight and try to get AMD mobo parts etc. trouble is the allocation window for fall closed in may-June....what will he do.
Squirming and wriggling will be seen and double talk will be emitted.
