Rio Tinto is getting pretty agressive. First they beat out Anglo American for North, now they topped DeBeers for Ashton. Rio Tinto already owns part of the Argyle diamond mine, so the bid makes sense. Anglo American is the largest shareholder in DeBeers, so indirectly Rio Tinto beat them again.

Most of action is in diamonds, steel, coal, and aluminum.

Billiton Plc, who just topped the Noranda offer for Rio Algom, has offered to buy Worsley Alumina from Alcoa:
