Scumbia, Re..<<The great heroes Bush and Powell decided that intervention in Sarajevo was too risky (50,000 American lives would be lost they said), and chose instead to do nothing and let the former Olympic hosts be tortured out of existence.<<<<

I can understand how fond you are of war and killing people; but what has that got to do with the question. Name me one great major initiative or piece of legislation Clinton has passed during the last four yrs that has helped this country.. All of Bill's major triumphs happened early in his presidency, and almost all would be considered republican style legislation, I.E. deficit reduction act, NAFTA, reductions in welfare, free trade. etc. What has Bill done to further the Democratic party's principles?

The great heroes Bush and Powell decided that intervention in Sarajevo was too risky (50,000 American lives would be lost they said), and chose instead to do nothing and let the former Olympic hosts be tortured out of existence.

The 50,000 American dead estimate (if they really did make it) would be over pessamistic in my opinion, however it probably was based on a full scale ground intervention, which never happened. What did happen when we started bombing was that a lot more Albanians started to get killed, and when eventually the Serbians did give up some control over some areas, more Serbians were killed by vengeful Albanians. The place is still a mess. Is it better off then if we had never intervened? Perhaps, but I would not call it an unqualified success.

I also doubt the people of Haiti care about gaining their freedom either

They don't have that to complain about. They didn't really gain any signifigant amount of freedom.

Overall I will grant you that Powell (and perhaps to a lesser extent Bush) was somewhat timid when the situation is complicated and US vital interests are not directly at risk. But it could be argued that a strong level of caution should be exercised in such situations.
