"Do you mean that the price of the car kit is not affected sales of G* phones in general or sales of the car kits? If the later, any idea on how many car kits have been sold"

The price of the car kit has not been an impediment to the sale of car kits. In other words, those that need it will pay the 999 and those folks tend to be hi end users.

I just spoke to an O'Gara rep in Ca. Very knowledgeable and very informative. He did not know who Greg Powers was but essentially made his argument re: timing and demand. Says demand is definitely their but don't expect it to happen overnight. It will pick up momentum - the elephant and the hockey stick. Had some interesting comments concering ICO. Said the splashed sat had been modified to test higher data rates than initial system's capability.
That sat was to see if they could get 64k so the splash was a timing setback and he doesn't expect them to be in svc until late 2003 at the very earliest and probably not until 2005 (especially if they use a Zenit). G*, therefore, will be the only game in town. Says has demand for gsm compatible handsets amongst US customers but he can't sell them yet. He has brought this up with G* (not usa) who says that is being corrected. Says handset needs to be usable in any region - the roaming issue. Once that is in place along with data, he expects a big pop in sales.
