Dear Nathan: It's not what I think but what I know:

>I'm curious, what makes you think that they would give cash for the fractional shares?

Corporations issue a check for the value of the fractional share. This is standard procedure. Over the years I have received quite a number of these [pain in the neck] cash in lieu payments.

The IRS **loves** these "cash in lieu" payments [what the form you get for taxes says]. Why? Because the vast majority of people do not take the time to figure out the cost basis for this fractional share payment and merely write, "Cash in lieu," on the cost line on Schedule D [short or long section, depending on how long the underlying stock, e.g. EMC, was held] then pay tax on the entire amount.

For the remainder of you reply, I really do not know how to respond because you are really just restating, using different words, what I said.

Regards,

Lynn
