Why is the D.C. school district among the worst in the nation, yet spending the highest per capita rate in the country? The public school bureaucracy is a joke.knc

>> Voucher is a code word for the worst of the proposals, which in practice is to just divert tax money to religous institutions.<< That is just plain B.S. You're looking for monsters under the bed again. My daughter will be starting kindergarten this year and my wife and I chose a school that has absolutely no religious affiliation, but I have to shell out $7 K / year to send her there because the public school just don't cut it! My son will go to that school in 2 more years.

As a consumer, the buyer dictates what sells, not the seller. If people don't want religious affiliation, that's where the vouchers will go. Your argument, again, holds no water. Why are you so content to be 24th in the world in education? Why are you content to have Bill Gates, Irwin Jacobs etc to have to go to China, India for technically capable people. We in industry have to "school" American educated youngster when brought into work, because they can't cut it based on the basics they've been taught in these public schools.

Public schools teach kids that the rain forest has been depleted at a million square miles per day for the last 15 years, but don't teach them the math to figure out that that is impossible. They also need to teach children how to spell!
