A y in my ph line allows me to dial in via unix or windows. When connected to my isp via w98 I auto log on to si and have no need of the username password info. When I went to si for the first time in unix it made me start a new acct with reduced privledges ('cause I didn't know my id).

Evidently when systems connect they record something akin to the fingerprint of the client pc that's connecting. Further evidence of this is that when I go back and forth from unix to w98 I must enter id info for wsj, nytimes and any other registered service. But if I continue to use this service from the same pc then the username/passwd info is no longer required. But ask that data to go through the other side of the phone line y and all of a sudden I have to re-enter all this id stuff, 'cause the server cannot identify me.

There is likely a way to sync the id's of these two pc's by changing something in Linux, but it's beyond me. Thanks for the quick reply.
