If data will save G*, it is not this type of data, a few bits an hour to report well status. May sell quite a few phones, though, if it is for real.

I remember about three years ago, our speculating on the Qcom board about various monitoring and other uses for cdma. Oil wells were not one, but it makes sense. There are thousands of oil wells outside of cell phone area. There are thousands of places where one might place a G* communication device for informational, control purposes on oil pipelines. Those kinds of monitoring devices add up.
