Glenn,

From HB on the TOY deal:

"Strategically, the move signals a shift away from end-to-end vertical integration, in which amazon owns everything and competes with all other major retailers, toward one in which amazon acts as a full-service shopping portal-- similar to AOL or YAHOO shopping, but with fulfillment included. If the company progresses in this direction, we would expect to see more such deals in different categories and, eventually, a separation of Amazon’s site and service organization from its distribution system. We would then expect to see the site valued more like Yahoo!"
