lockup problem...

I just installed Asus P3V4X motherboard, IBM 15gb, 700 PIII, Soundblaster cdrom, Soundblaster pci512 soundcard, matrox G400 max vid card, lucent modem, netgear FA310TX net card.

Problem is... I boot up computer and the cursor freezes and it just locks up. If it doesn't lock up after bootup, it does it as soon as I try and open any application.

I reinstalled windows twice. On the first restart..I had to reset.

Can someone help me w/ this problem? thanks

Using end it all and leaving only Em_exec and Systray running seems to speed up defrag but when I try to shut down,the computer freezes at "Please Wait For Your Computer To Shut Down".Then on start up it goes through scandisk automatically.Any suggestions.
