ADCT tops volume chart

ADC Telecommunications Inc. (ADCT: news, msgs) is rising 2 3/8, or 6.6 percent, to 38 1/2, on heavy volume of 27 million shares, tops on the Nasdaq exchange. Average daily volume is 8.6 million shares. The Dow Jones News Service is quoting ADC's CEO Bill Cadogan as saying the company is comfortable with Wall Street expectations for its fourth quarter earnings and that it won't attempt an aquisition of Harmonic Lightwave (HLIT: news, msgs). A First Call survey of 21 analysts put the company's fourth-quarter profit at 19 cents a share. In addition, the Minneapolis network equipment provider announced the formation of an operation to develop and customize photonics products for its customers. ADC spokesman Rob Clark wasn't immediately available for comment on the DJ report or the movement in the stock.

Wireless Cable and Internet Provider Upgrading to ADC’s Carrier Class Architecture in Sioux City, Iowa

MINNEAPOLIS — August 22, 2000 — ADC (Nasdaq: ADCT; www.adc.com), a leading global supplier of network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, today announced that Evertek Enterprises, an Internet service provider in Sioux City, Iowa, will upgrade its current two-way Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service (MMDS) system with ADC’s Axity broadband wireless access system.
Evertek provides cable and wireless television, wireless Internet and local telephone services to its customers in Northwest Iowa. The Axity solution is expandable to allow Evertek to supply high-speed wireless data services to the entire Sioux City population of 82,000 as needed.

Axity is a carrier-class solution that enables providers to deliver two-way high-speed voice and data over the MMDS spectrum. Leveraging experience in MMDS radio frequency (RF) technology design and manufacture and its broad range of standards-compliant hardware and software, ADC provides an end-to-end solution for MMDS deployment, including complete network planning, design and integration services.
