Re: "It is the Republicans who are the 'Good Government' types":

And if you don't believe that, Delbert, Neo has a "Good Government" poster at his house that features Richard Nixon and G. Gordon Liddy dressed as cowboys, with guns drawn, under a slogan: "Good government, at any cost."

Neo: You win the pumpkin that looks like Richard Nixon for the most absurd post of the day. Tomorrow the pumpkin will go to a different person, but today, it's all yours.

<< Historically, it is Democrats who are most prone to graft, and Republicans who are the "Good Government" types. >>

Surely you're joking. Here's one example that I witnessed first hand...

During the S&L deregulation days, I was in Round Rock, Tx. looking for land to buy for a motel. I saw land deals financed 100% by the S*Ls, and flipped over and over between the same people. If you didn't have a Reagan/Bush sticker on your bumper, you had zero chance of getting in on one of these deals. Within 6 months the land prices were way out of sight. Eventually the prices got so ridiculous that it all collapsed, with the taxpayer footing the bill for all of those bad 100% land loans. (Surprise!)

Now there were a bunch of tainted S&Ls that failed, so the government ate the bad loans, and guess who ended up with the now clean S&Ls? Some of the same people that robbed 'em in the first place.

Reagan was the big promoter of deregulating the S&Ls making the 100% land loans possible. His supporters were very happy.
