Yes, I know exactly what it means. And there is some truth to what you are saying. Some truth. However, the "buying interest" is not entirely a fabrication, or a joke. It is real in most cases. Yes, an institution can enter a fake "interest" and head fake the casual observer into thinking the opposite of what that institution actually intends.

Today's "interest" signal was not one of these fabrications. It was real and coincided directly with the beginning of the massive volume spike and upward movement in the stock.

Ignore today's action if you want, but your short will not be a good bet going forward, IMO.
