RMBS--Rambus Denies Micron Antitrust Claims

Tuesday August 29 5:24 PM ET

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (Reuters) - Microchip technology provider Rambus Inc. (NasdaqNM:RMBS - news) on Tuesday denied claims by Micron Inc. (NYSE:MU - news) that it violated federal antitrust laws and said it would defend its property rights ``vigorously'' against a Micron lawsuit.

Late on Monday, semiconductor maker Micron said it was suing Rambus in federal court in Delaware, alleging antitrust violations and seeking to invalidate some Rambus patents.

Rambus responded Tuesday by saying it had initiated talks with Micron to license intellectual property used in types of specialty semiconductors known as SDRAMs and DDR SDRAMs, but those talks did not result in any agreements.

``Rather than negotiate, Micron chose to litigate,'' Rambus said in a statement.

Rambus said it is in the process of preparing a further response to Micron's allegations, and it expects to prevail in the matter.

Rambus shares closed off 3 3/8 at 80 5/8 on the Nasdaq, while Micron shares fell 1 5/16 at 88 on the New York Stock Exchange
