Frank- Speaking of Chamber's negatively slanted PR against the bellheads(SPs and equipment players), he's the one who always has said, "Voice will be free." Coincidently there is supposed to be a story along these lines in the Wall Street Journal this AM(my subscription suddenly stopped in error) as announced by CNBC. It should say something like ATT is offering voice for free. CNBC said the article referred to cable telephony voice. Of course this must be part of a package that ATT will offer. I'm guessing the package will include Internet, TV, LD, and Local phone service in one mega-package. Only then the local phone service will be free. Kind of what Chambers has said all along would happen. He said something like, "voice will be free if you sign up for data." -MikeM(From Florida) PS I finally found the story. Just a promo. ___________________ *AT&T to Offer Free Service to Cable Telephone Users, Paper Says* By Daniel Taub New York, Aug. 29 (Bloomberg) -- AT&T Corp., the No. 1 U.S. long-distance phone company, plans to offer free local and long- distance service to those who subscribe to its cable-telephony service, the Wall Street Journal reported on its Web site. The new marketing campaign is expected to begin in some large cities on Friday, the paper said. The New York-based company will offer up to five months of the free service and free installation as part of an effort to boost the number of customers who use phone service over AT&T's cable lines. AT&T is working to meet a promise to Wall Street to sign up thousands of new cable-telephony customers, the Journal said. The company has spent about $100 billion buying cable-TV companies to use their lines to offer phone service nationwide.
