What the heck is this "dual award"?

An $857,210,421 (total includes options) firm-fixed-price, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract, and is a dual award to the IBM Global Services-Federal

GTSI awarded $857.2 mln U.S. defense contract

WASHINGTON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - GTSI Corp (NasdaqNM:GTSI - news) of Chantilly, Va, has been awarded an $857.2 mln U.S. defence contract for worldwide military government and communications work, the Defence Department said.

The computer and communications work will include supplying high-end 64-bit servers, workstations, operating systems, compilers, software applications, local and wide-area networking, system upgrades and both classified and unclassified support services.

The Army announced earlier that IBM Global Services-Federal of Boulder, Colorado, a unit of IBM Corp (NYSE:IBM - news), had been awarded a companion $617.6 million contract to provide the same types of services for U.S. military and government agencies.
