I disagree. The companies involved in the production of the Sdram standard did not number in the thousands as you suggest. It looks like about 20 companies at most. Hardly a difficult matter to address.

When you include all the technology patents and process patents that go into making these chips, the list could go on for a lot longer than 20 companies.

I believe the way the patent law works is that it is up to the patent owner to inform infringers (and go after them) after the patent has been granted. Just as we're seeing happen here.
