OTOT Dan3, to make a hopefully non-partisan contribution to the current OT ramble here, the guy who really put the economy on its present course was Paul Volcker, though nobody gives him much credit. Carter didn't really want to appoint him, and Lord knows Reagan didn't like him much, got rid of him at the first opportunity. But he set the Fed on its current course and deserves most of the credit for stopping inflation.
