I think you're rich if you make, say, $160,000 to $200,000 a year. That's just a ballpark figure. Any figure I throw out also is positively or negatively influenced by factors such as how much money you've saved over the years; whether you live in San Francisco or Hannibal, Missouri; whether or not you're caring for an elderly parent at home or in a nursing home; whether you have extremely high medical bills; whether you're single/married/divorced.

There are lots of factors involved. Say what you want about the present income tax system, but it does include many of the factors I've listed above in ascertaining what your federal tax obligation is. For instance, before my daughter went off to college four years ago, I had to pay $8,000 for an operation that was not covered by my HMO. I got some breaks from Uncle Sam and the university for this unusual expense.

As an aside, I suspect your question is one of these "When did you stop beating your wife?" questions, and you're trying to entrap me in some way or other.
