On sector funds, it's better to avoid the low performance funds. To check for performance, some methods are
1. look at 1 yr, 3 yr, 5 yr performance record,
2. compare sectors vs S&P500,
3. check a fund vs its 50 day moving average.

To avoid poor funds also keep us stay with the better funds.

Last night I did a scan on biotech stocks. The scan gave two stocks: BTRN and VICL. BTRN is really looking good.
