"The question I have is: where will Sun position themselves? "

An excerpt from a Morgan Keegan report following on the heels of the recent Intel Developer's Forum -

Although it will eventually emerge in the IA opportunity, we are not expecting any meaningful Infiniband traction for probably 3-5 years. The vendors that could introduce proprietary clustering solutions based upon Infiniband-like fabric I/O architecture are the ones that control their own destiny by developing their own O/S. The most likely
candidate in this category is Sun, which we believe may be the first to roll out fabric I/O solutions for clustering. We believe that such solutions will leverage Sun's dominance of the server space and help it to extend its lead as the highly scalable, high-availability server architecture of choice in the data center.

Kurt,

<<<In my opinion, we are seeing the beginning of an evolution in computer architecture (the infamous "paradigm shift"). The question I have is: where will Sun position themselves? >>

I agree we are living in the middle of a 'paradigm shift'. If we invest wisely, there are many investment opportunities out there.

I believe Intel recognizes the huge potential of the service business. I think they are trying to get into the server and outsourcing business. SUN has to measure up, otherwise, their dominance in the server area will be challenged. What's unclear is that how will a company like SUN making IB capable servers in the future provide seamless integration of old and new servers? I'll be on the lookout for products that will give me a clue in that area.
