Well, destroys may be a little too much, but it would do an awful lot of damage. A lot is invested in discrediting him. People who predicted that the economy would collapse by '88 all of sudden decided that it was a Keynesian success, and people who were sure we were playing into the hands of Kremlin hardliners all of a sudden decided that our behavior made no difference, the reformers merely rose to the top through internal politics........
