NEW YORK, Aug 30 (Reuters) - Merrill Lynch said on Wednesday it raised its 12-month price target on Corning (NYSE:GLW - news) to $400 per share from $375 per share.

-- said Corning's wide array of technology-related businesses leaves the company well-positioned for a continued growth.

-- said Corning unveiled on Tuesday its new optical networking system at a meeting during the National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference and will experience meaningful revenues from the unit in 2001.

-- said raised its 2001 photonics revenue projection for Corning to $1.7 billion from $1.4 billion, which could still prove conservative. Merrill also raised its 2001 EPS estimate to $4.10 from $4.05. Its 2000 EPS estimate remained unchanged at $3.25.

Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette on Tuesday reiterated its buy rating on Corning, whose stock closed at $309-5/8 Tuesday. The 52-week range for the stock was $62-5/8 to $316-1/2.
