you know, it's true though...big mergers often mark an imminent trend change for the industry group concerned. the big oil mergers last year marked the bottom in the oil market. the recent mergers in the gold industry will in hindsight likely be marking a bottom too.

as for financial services, brokers, etc. you have to take note that they are not only merging while hitting all time highs, but also that the acquirors are Europeans, who are traditional bag holders in the US market.
