The point is that there are so many SUVs on the road now and what that is doing to national oil consumption. Heinz couldn't believe my story unless we must have crappy, deep rutted dirt roads. Most of those SUVs are daily drivers that spend a very small amount of time, if any, doing what they are capable of. So the rest of it is a waste of fuel. That is what we are talking about.

It's a free country. You can own one if you want. I just wanted to point out the fact that they are not really safer, and very unnecessary for the huge majority of owners.

It sounds like you at least use yours for the intended purposes- unlike most.

BTW- A van is much better for hauling stuff, and how much snow do you really get in VA anyway. I had a 4wd pickup for 2 or 3 yrs. here in So. Indiana, and I think it came in handy for snow about once, when we had a freak 16" snow, and no one should have been out driving on that day.

If you decide to sell it- wait for the 1st dusting of the winter, and put an ad in the paper. I sold mine the 1st day for the full asking price. <g>

Hi, Blue - Several years back my wife finally talked me into buying a pickup to go along with our more conventional vehicles. In addition to greatly easing our hauling problems, we use it to stash our gear when we go off on our jaunts to places like Sequoia and Yosemite. I've become a
Ford Ranger fan. Purty good mileage, too. R
