You would think there'd be a booming market for authentic faux plastic antlers for rough-riders to strategically place on the hood of their SUVs.

By the way, last winter in my part of the country SUVs outnumbered regular cars in the ditch 2 to 1.

It's because the drivers think they are invincible with 4x4. Of course they are not, especially if they don't have a winch and anchoring stake of some sort.

Did you see the story a month or two ago about these two Texans with 4x4s that got stuck up real high on a mountain in Colorado? The morons got lost and started following a goat path over a ridge crest. When they got going on the other side they were on a 70% grade! Finally, the morons stopped and all the authorities were amazed that the trucks did't just tumble a couple thousand feet down the mountain. Park service was considering calling in some logging helicopters (at 3 grand an hour, from the Pacific Northwest) to get the trucks off. Took a week and half the local town but they finally got them down in one piece. -g-
