Mani,

But what about not having optimized drivers or what ever else needed for a chip to perform well? I remember that you were very critical of the low benchmark (first published benchmarks for Athlon) numbers for the Athlon from firing squad site. You were 100% correct and Athlon turned out to be as good as advertised.

The reason I was skeptical about the Firing Squad K7 benchmarks, was because they were way out of line with what should be expected from the architecture.

In contrast, the Willy benchmarks appear consistent with the theory.

Use of SSE2 prefetch instructions in optimized code will certainly help some applications out, and rest assured Intel will create quite a smokescreen around them.

All things considered (die size, performance, scalability), Willy appears to be headed towards becoming a legendary failure.
