Count your blessings.

We've been innundated with deer this summer. Took out my whole pea crop -- I made the mistake of planting the peas on the outside fence (our garden is fenced 7 feet high all round to keep the buggers out), but they pulled the foliage through the fencing and demolished the whole crop. A week or so ago they even came up onto the porch, four steps up onto a porch right outside our living room windows, to eat our geraniums. One chased our cat the other day. I dang near totalled the car on two the other day -- fortunately I slowed down as I approached them browsing on the side of the road; when I was about 15 feet away they leapt right into the middle of the road and froze there. Brake slam, tire squeal, bumped one, but no damage. But 5 mph faster, and whump. They can do major damage to a car, and its occupants.

If you're only seen four from a distance, count your blessings. It used to be okay 5 years or so ago -- we would see them occasionally, but they didn't get too close, and they were kind of cute from a distance. But when you're walking down the drive and a mom and her baby are standing in the drive browsing on the grass median and mom looks up and tells you plain as day to amscray or she'll take a head butt or heel flick to you, it ain't fun.
