"Why should they pay for something that they are not entitled to take benefits?" This same question is often raised by the 20 year old American citizen who does not expect to see these benefits. I don't feel qualified to argue the point myself. Many on this thread have strong opinions about it. I, however, consider this whole area of American social welfare to be broken and in need of an overhaul or complete replacement as a support system.

"Maybe I misjudged the tone of your original post." Actually, you may have judged my tone correctly as confrontational. I love to give Lizzie a kick. But you misjugded the content. I personally have partnerships that extend to India, Pakistan, and I am working on establishing some in Egypt. I think it is perfectly good and appropriate and that this is the way of the modern world. What is American in principle, however, should also be represented by our elected officials. For me the integrity of this is measured the truth and justice in the performance of their duties they are willing to be held accountable for. This should be embrionic of the policies that promote economics, social programs, world affairs etc.

I do not consider it a put down on foriegn nationals to say that they are in the United States because it offers them the best opportunity to provide for themselves and their loved ones. People have been frank with me on this. It isn't typically American idealism that attracted them and it isn't what holds them here.

Why should they pay for something that they are not entitled to take benefits? It may make sense for Permanent Residents paying Medicare/SS as they are likely future citizens. But even that is suspect.

The naiveté betrayed by that post [all sarcasm off here] absolutely chokes me up. What to you think is the subtext of virtually every post made by we non-socialists on this thread?

We are paying confiscatory tax rates and not receiving fair value in return. We ask exactly the same question as you:
Why should they pay for something that they are not entitled to take benefits?

Welcome to the USA.

BTW - your liberal academic friends are laughing at you behind your back. And you are making an ass of yourself here.
