What amazes me somewhat is how popular Bill Clinton is abroad. We had a French exchange student stay with us for a few months and she said Clinton was extremely popular in France. Only JFK, she said, perhaps had more popularity among American presidents. A lot of countries have a much higher tolerance for Monicagate and the like than do we Americans. One of the fun things Europeans do is read American newspapers and laugh at examples of our Puritanism. What also has amazed me is how Clinton went about the business of being president so smoothly in light not only of Monicagate, but also when all the fur was flying over Flowers and Paula Jones.

Despite all the charges swirling around the man, he always kept a full schedule -- as full a schedule as any president in recent history. He's in Russia one day, meeting with flood victims in Missouri another day, at Cardinal O'Connor's funeral another day, in Africa this week. I think that's partially why his popularity ratings remain high: Because he's out and about and doing what Americans elected him to do.

Just one voter's opinion ... and I never voted for him!
