DD, and I were discussing gold as a hedge against the market. The bottom line on the stock market will continue to be earnings. As reports come in, the effects of the rising interest rates will be defined. Gold on the other hand is driven by the price of the dollar. A strong dollar will continue to depress gold prices. The weakness of the Euro and the second Japanese banking crises are insuring the strengh of the dollar for the time being, regardless of inflationary pressures created by increased energy costs. For my own trading, I look for patterns in large block trades. I try to spot a developing trend, identifiable by large blocks in a specific sector....similarly to this report filed on Bloomberg earlier today regarding precious metal stocks: <Author Dwivedi Report Source Jim Kingsland (Added 8/31/2000 5:03:25 AM)Categories: Stock Picks, Stocks To Watch Email link to this Article Money Flow: NEM, PDG, HM, MDT, PHG, PEB Jim Kingsland picks the following stocks on the basis of money flow: -Money flow uses the Bloomberg terminal to measure investor sentiment by counting the way a stock is traded during the day; looks at share blocks of 10,000 or more -If stock trades higher than prevailing market prices, money flow is positive; if lower than prevailing market prices, money flow considered negative. -Buying on Weakness: weakness in stock price; strength in money flow; aggressive buying; positive sentiment indication in stock over the past week: NEM, PDG, HM NEM: money flow improving and pushing to the upside; declining stock price PDG: money flow continues to be very strong; choppy trend in stock HM: money flow holding steady; pull back in stock price -Selling on Strength: strength in stock price; weakness in money flow; aggressive selling; negative sentiment indication in stock over the past week: MDT, PHG, PEB MDT: money flow continues to deteriorate; stock attempting to rebound PHG: money flow deteriorating and bottoming out; stock attempts to recover from prior lows PEB: push to the downside in money flow; pus to the upside in stock> Thanks agains for joining in Mark and good luck in the contest.
