I watched the documentary on Newt Gingrich on PBS. It was not exactly a revelation, unless you didn't already know the sequence of events, or that Newt was very smart and energetic. The claim that Newt says that Clinton ought not to be removed is not quite right. He basically says what I said today to JLA: impeachment was mandated, removal was not so clear, and it was all creating problems to be dealt with. There is no slip up, no egregious embarrassment, apart from the facts already at hand: that the election was ambiguous, when they expected to pick up a bunch of seats, that Newt was under attack from some of his people and resigned, and that he later went through a marital scandal. The footage of Newt himself presents the guy that I have seen in person: lively, intelligent, articulate, and genial......

Yup, He must have this Karl Marx quote hanging from his office.

"There is only one way to kill capitalism - by taxes, taxes, and more taxes."

I believe Adam Smith was closer to the truth when he said this...

"Little else is requisite to carry a state to the highest degree of opulence from the lowest barbarism but peace, easy taxes, and a tolerable administration of justice: all the rest being brought about by the natural course of things."

Or Tyrrell Emmett when he said this....

"The best way to restrain the politicians' impulse to spend and to expand government's reach is to keep the surplus modest. That means lowering taxes."

Here is the quote we should be listening to

"You cannot help men permanently by doing what they could and should do for themselves. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence"

......................Abraham Lincoln
