As to Gnome, I really like it, but the linux usability thing I'm most interested in is Eazel. I realize it's a long shot, but it's certainly an interesting one. The guys doing that are heavyweight talents who have been there and done that.

From the point of usability, Gnome is really turd-polishing. It's preaching to the converted. Yes, you'll end up with a GUI as good as Microsoft's (and maybe better in some ways) but underneath is still this frightening and unusable *ix monster. Whereas I think the guys at Eazel are undertaking something much more ambitious: actually making it a quantum jump more usable, usable enough for, let's say, "the rest of us" rather than just the superior-feeling-slashdot-testosterone guy.

I *WANT* shares if Eazel IPO's. I have no idea how they intend to make money but I want them anyway. I am a Benjamin Graham clone all the way.

Edit: The liklihood that they'll IPO before being bought is approximately nil, however.
