TechieGuy :

As for the Durons, pricewatch makes you right, at least for now 'cause the ASP has been well north of 90$ for the first month of the quarter. But I agree that the volume is likely closer to 65$.

OTOH, ASP for TBIRD seems a little to low. The volume seems to be in the 800 - 900 were the retail prices go from 175 to 265.

but event with your numbers look at what it gives :

Duron------ $90.00------ 1.00------ $65.00
Athlon------ $175.00-------- 2.60------- $455
K6-x------- $45.00------ 3.20------ $144
CPU rev : $664.00
ASP global : $97.65

Pretty close to 100, no?

As for AMD being a lottery, I think this time Big investor are expecting a disappointement, given the disappointement in the Q2 EPS. I'm pretty much sure that we will blow this .62 a share away, 1000,000 times more than I'm sure that I'll win the lotery this week-end.

I think we can beat estimate only from the CPU revenues.

TG. I have found for several quarters that a reasonable bogie for the price received by AMD for a chip is a 15% discount to the lowest price on Pricewatch, or a 25% discount to the price at thechipmerchant.com

If that seems slim, remember that the Pricewatch merchants often charge exorbitant shipping charges of over $5 per CPU, which is obviously not a shipping charge at all.

Using the "chipmerchant method" I get an ASP's of $57, $68 and $87 for the 3 chips. Using a 3-4-2 ratio of sales, that comes out to $68.50 --whoa -- pretty close to your $65 estimate.

PS - I think we were both pretty close in the Goutama contest last quarter.
