That is an unique and rare occurance. I was speaking about the cases of cattlemen using government land for all but free ( token payments of 20 dollars for rights to graze on 5000 acres etc. ) . Here in Idaho, we wanted to expand our range where our aircraft train in low level terrain avoidance, dropping dummy bombs and dof fighting etc. There was an uproar from the cattle guys since we could not have livestock where we are doing these risky types of flying. There was a HUGE uproar and the US Government ended up paying these A$$holes a few million to shut them up. Paying people off so the government can use land it owns. This country has lost it's mind! If I decide to sit in my yard but you were sitting there first, am I going to pay you to leave? Heck no! You got about 10 seconds to move your rear or I come out with the Rock Salt loaded Shotgun if I am being a friendly neighbor or else I use the 44 Mag if you are on my bad neighbor list.

Loggers, cattle ranchers and miners seem to have it ingrained that there is no need to actually buy land for use since the publicly owned land is apparently in their eyes only for their own use. That is not only wrong, but as a tax payer, I am furious that our rights are below those of these rednecks. Yellowstone and various other parks are too unique and full of things that all can enjoy just to let some dropout have job security by allowing them to destroy everything so I can have my products shipped in a pretty new cardboard box.

In the case of your article, I am sure those farmers will be well paid for their land and if they scream loud enough, they will be paid enough to buy and run 10 farms right down the street. I love the land and enjoy certain ways of life too but there is nothing that remotely resembles farming where you work your butt of to go broke and rely on government handouts and loans just to lose more money that a big fat check wouldn't convince me to give up. I stated my beliefs on farming before on this thread and unpopular or not, I just don't see the right to farm and be subsidized written in the constitution. I know many people that want to be professional athaletes, singers or movie stars but you don't see the goverment bailing them out if they are lousy at it and making it so they don't have to switch career fields.

I prefer not to maintain this off topic discussion. I lurk this thread because it used to be the first to post breaking news and gave perspective on the real state of the economy. I would love to see that return.

Good Luck,

Lee
