Cisco Systems (CSCO) said today it has agreed to buy Ontario-based PixStream in a stock deal worth $369 million. The acquisition reinforces Cisco's recent move to deliver broadcast-quality video over faster networks, and pull ahead in the content delivery market.

Cisco announced last week that it had aligned with a number of companies in the space, including Digital Island (ISLD), Network Appliances (NATP) and several Internet hosting companies, to create a standard platform for content delivery based on its newest software package.

The deal is Cisco's 17th acquisition this year bringing the company closer to its goal of 20 to 25 buyouts. Four-year-old PixStream provides hardware and software that enables businesses to distribute and manage digital video across all types of broadband networks.
