Essentially, you have suggested that if stories are circulated that if true, would be detrimental to the welfare of a stock, that people should sell their stock. That is insane.

Now, I don't know what you are talking about. Issuing false press releases is fraud and is another issue. The company combats false opinions by simply correcting it and let the numbers do the talking.

Shorting a stock because you think it is temporarily overvalued (and in the long run does not destroy the stock) is another issue.

If a newbie investor bases their investment decision on a Barron's article or a research report, they don't belong in the market, IMO.
