JRI/GVT......a cash or stock dividend is fixed. EMC's core business is growing fast. McDATA's core business is growing fast. SSB, for instance, just upped estimates for the CAGRs and size of the SAN market closer to EMC's internally used numbers. A lot can happen in 6-12 months.

Like I said, fixating on the MCDT stock distribution is like fixating on the narrow SAN vs NAS debate. From an investing standpoint, it only makes one miss out on the other investing opportunities in the emerging supply line that the growth rates of EMC and McDATA imply.

Just today...with less than 2 hours to go before the close:

EMC - + 2.0%
MCDT - + 11.9%
QLGC - + 8.6%
EMLX - + 3.5%
JNIC - + 2.5%

*OT* Thanks for the clarification GV- Obviously, I never received spun-off(ed) shares before...btw- what do think are the odds that the shares will (spun-off) be tax-free for EMC shareholders? Is that an automatic?
