I love the way he turns a phrase, and in a general sense, appreciate his insights into technology. I may have mentioned that I recently stopped subscribing his Letter, but mainly because much of the stuff he writes, on subjects that interest me, is quoted or paraphrased on RB or Yahoo threads and quickly makes it over here, and he gets a little redundant. If you read him 2 years ago, you can here it again now (<ctrl> C, <ctrl> V, rephrase a tad, publish). As a matter of fact I just received "Telecosm: How Infinite Bandwidth Will Revolutionize Our World" , from Amazon (have not cracked the cover and probably won't for a bit). I waited for months last summer for this to be published and somehow missed September release. << but did you read the current issue of the GTR? >> Had it read to me on the phone, and saw some excerpts quoted or paraphrased on various SI threads. << Have you heard the "cocktail party" analogy for the different standards? >> Did he do another one in the new GTR? If so it didn't stick. Or are you referring to the original one in the classic 97 Forbes piece, or maybe it was Irwin that did that or was quoted as doing that? BTW: I think you should pass on Dr.ID's request to "post... it for us in its entirety" , a link on RB or Yahoo would be fine. Sometimes George leaves me rolling my eyes, which I did when he stated in the recent issue (I think) that CDMA was "at least" 4X more efficient (or offered 4X the capacity) of GSM or TDMA. Perhaps he is looking forward to 1xRTT which could make that an accurate statement, or maybe he actually said "as much as" . This kind of hyperbole, does not really help Qualcomm, IMO, and yes, I know what the CDG web site says, and I have gone round and round with "Gus" about it. I was also scratching my head when he quoted John Brewer from DaVinci Group (interesting statements) like everybody ought to know who John Brewer of DaVinci Group is. Most interesting was the acknowledgement of the fact that he sort of acknowledged the fact that, to many people, GSM voice quality is more acceptable than CDMA voice quality. All this said, I AM a Gilder fan. - Eric -
