Thread, Where do Beowulf clusters fit in when we are looking at different chips/architectures? How do they stack up against other solutions?

Specs to one cluster are online and they are benchmarking, or so they say. Not being a techie, I can't make sense of it. I do know that Beowulf clusters seem to be cost-effective solutions for specific applications. Will these clusters be used outside the academic/scientific community?

If nothing else, Intel investors should appreciate the fact that this configuration uses 34 PIII 450's. I'm just not certain of the applications of Beowulf clusters, besides big-time simulations and number crunching.

TIA for any help you can give me. dmf

Tench,

But at IDF Intel reps were downplaying Specmarks even
going so far as stating they weren't important. It
got several good laughs in various forums. So (not
trying to be tricky here) are you getting in on this
late or didn't you read and hear that?

I'll give you tpmC. Good box for that.. but Foster will
do better...

We have have a lot to see..
