Ted,

re: I don't follow the Intel thread closely; is there a general awareness that P4 has some weaknesses? And is the consensus that the P4 will evolve over time into a major seller for Intel?

I think most on the Intel thread are still in shell shock over the recall. I think there is an awareness that some of the usual anti-Intel suspects are claiming that P4 could be less than everyone hoped for. The usual response would be to take that lightly, but with the recent Intel performance, folks are a little more cautious. I don't like to speak for other people, and there are certainly those whose confidence is 100% intact.

As for the future, you have to see things from the perspective of a long term Intel stockholder. Intel has done great year in and year out, so there is a lot of confidence placed in the company. We don't analyze to the same degree that folks do on the AMD threads. I would say the assumption, based on faith in the company, is that the P4 is a long term product that will be very successful. There is a different culture on the Intel thread <g>.
