Hello Mary, long time no talk <ggg>. Just like the death of the mainframe, of course I believe the death of the PC is exaggerated. There are going to have to be some breakthroughs in display technology in my opinion before a 3 line phone display is going to be of much use, no matter how much the faithful talk about 3G... I just think some on the thread have forgotten/dismissed the competition, and keep praying before the 'altar of the model'. In addition, Mikey is going to have to come up with some R&D bucks if he really is going 'after the enterprise'. Somehow I don't think Uncle Sam Palmisano of IBM is going to bend over too far in providing high level services for Mikey if it means killing IBM's enterprise business...

Best regards,
John

PS - I know, I know, Unobtanium is coming. Thing is, Unobtanium is only half the story, the other half is software, and RAS...

Mary, not only a good response, but a great response

not even the most bullish wireless experts believe the PC is dying! Nok talks about it to gain press; but behind the scenes they're preparing their handsets for communication with the PC (personalized downloads). hard to imagine running a business on a cellphone.

A lot of those billions might get Internet access at the same time they get phone access -- and via the same device!

Mary-I have said this (PC is not nor will it become dead) as have others for years and it's true-PC's are like the telephone was in the teens (1913-1919) -they are all improved versions now but still telephones-I have over 60 million bet on this one premise.
