Nukeit:

Hopefully the abundant and well-schooled (and well heeled if they have been accumulating AMD)technical advisers on this thread will address your question...As is painfully apparent to all, I'm certain, the technical side of computers is not something I can pretend to know much about...What I do know is that what AMD says, it delivers and what I do know is that their Athy based systems are the "smoothest" systems that I've ever used!!! I also know that production is full of potential landmines as has been evidenced by Intel's repeated bungling over the past year and I do know that a world separates the best laid plans from production in retail quantities as Intel is now finding out the hard way...I knew the Athy was for real in November '99, when it was centre stage in my local PC outlet's promotional display and I could touch and experiment with it...If they could get it to this retail outlet, it had to be "here and now"...
