In your case, maybe, but in mine it's a legal requirement.

You see, I trade in a sheltered account (ira) and am prohibited from any transaction that requires the use of margin. That rules out writing puts.

That restriction has been a blessing. I've become accustomed to operating without margin, even in my cash accounts. I've also seen the damage that the inappropriate use of margin has wreaked upon many folks over the years, and am glad I never became comfortable with the use of it.
