ted, the #1 design goal of the P4 was high clock speed. This has nothing to do with the Internet, streaming video, audio or anything else. Personally, I think these applications are served better by dedicated hardware which is much cheaper and has lower power consumption, or, if you insist on a computer doing it, by greater parallellism.

I know that the net discussions are Intel hype but there is some truth to the hype...and some of these applications right now are in their infancy and do not require a lot of power as you state. However, as they mature I think their power demands will increase significantly. That's why I thought this may be a fit for Willy.
