Mag,
One possible cause of sudden shutdown problems is a virus called network.vbs. Microsoft has a distribution file called network.vbs that is 6K size. The virus is 3K size. Try a find on it. It doesn't seem to do any other harm and it spreads by searching IP's on the internet and seeing if file sharing is enabled with read/write enabled.

Magnatizer,
I found a site for troubleshooting procedures [win 95 shutdown probs] but won't have time until this weekend.I'll get back with my solution asap-

support.microsoft.com

I have not shut down since I reloaded apps. so I may not have the shutdown problem now.
