Don't get me wrong. IMO, net operating income should come from operations, so the key is beating estimates with unambiguous operating income, not investments.

If on top of that, investment profits are consistent, not only is the balance sheet improved, but the reports simply look better, a la Intel. A well run fund in WIND's space seems like a no brainer, particularly when you are solidifying customers.

They already have a head start with LBRT and others, so over time I think consistent performance will evidence itself.

3Com did the same thing with remarkable results, without ever reporting investment profit as income -- as I recall.
