DS,

<< I just subscribed to WOW >>

You won't regret it.

I've subscribed his various newsletters for quite awhile.

Like you, I keep things very current, but I've changed my approach to downloading updates from MSFT, particularly service releases and security updates. Before I download I check to see what Woody has to say. Lots of MSFT's problems have been with the installer on patches and SR's. Often there is a CD available. Often Microsoft reps will deny that. If Woody has stated that one is available, you simply have to say "Woody says" ... and the CD is out the door. His name is magic in Redmond.

Speaking of Woody, he coauthored a great Que book called "Special Edition: Using Microsoft Office 2000". It is $27.99 at Amazon. It is not a primer. It is intermediate to power user level, and conntains a lot of workarounds for the MSFT "junk".

The book saved me countless hours of configuration time when I moved from MSO97 to 2000.

Best part though is the book comes with a CD with "WOPR 2000" which is an indispennsible set of power tools for Word, that used to cost $40, as standalone shareware. I think you can still download a version from the WOPR site. It puts Word on steroids.

I'm hopeful Woody and Ed Bott will collaborate again on an update of the book for MSO 2001.

Have a great weekend.
