DownSouth, StockHawk -- thanks for the responses.

I hope after Labor Day to have the time to attempt to look at some of the smaller cap fiber optic component stocks (such as AVNX, STLW and SPLI) using my basic understanding of the Gorilla Game metrics. None look remotely pongid to me at the present moment. Nor does JDSU, really, although I love the stock and the company.

However, the thrust of my question really was whether it makes any sense (or is a useful exercise) to look at the entire telecommunications equipment industry as presently being in an enormous tornado, industry-wide, with fiber optic technologies as a whole emerging as the chimeric "gorilla" that will pull the rug out from underneath, and obviate the need for, such technologies as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), SONET, Cisco's core router technologies, packet switching, DSL, etc. Should we even be looking for a single company to annoint in this sector yet? Better risk/reward at present to simply buy a basket of potential fiber optic acquirees perhaps?

Just a thought. Now, to more important things .... the beach!
